Questions from God: Where Are You?

Every question God asks in Scripture is an invitation to examine our hearts, and the very first question He asks is, "Where are you?" In Genesis 3, we discover that sin always promises more than it delivers, leaving us burdened with shame, fear, and the desire to hide from God. Yet before God speaks words of judgment, He comes looking for Adam and Eve, revealing His heart of grace and His plan of redemption. The same God who pursued them in the garden still pursues us today, inviting us to step out of hiding and walk with Him again.

• The serpent's first attack was on God's character, not His command. Why do you think believing lies about God often comes before disobeying Him?

• Have you ever looked back on a decision and realized sin promised something it could never deliver? What did you learn from that experience?

• Adam and Eve responded to sin with shame, fear, blame, and hiding. Which of those responses do you most naturally identify with, and why?

• Why do you think our instinct is to hide from God when we've failed instead of running to Him?

• What are some modern-day "fig leaves" people use to cover shame or avoid dealing with their sin?
