Rumuruti Day 1
Day 1 Rumururti…
Rumuruti has been quite a surprise. Going to a new place, especially in Kenya, has always kept hidden its surprises. Generally requiring that we explore our options and look into all the available resources to see how we can find better food options, cleaner lodging, and sometimes even availability of drinking water. Things needed to be clarified before trying to plan for the next anticipated trip. We used any extra down time to scout out options that might be necessary to extended trips in the future.
This trip has not been that way. The accommodations and food quality here are the highest I’ve ever experienced in this country. We are comfortable, well fed and learning that standards of Kenya are constantly striving to raise themselves. This country is modernizing at a rate unlike any I’ve seen in the twenty years if traveling here.
Our ministry started with a quick greeting, only about 10 minutes, followed by another 5 to organize and then we were off. Door to door tin the Rumuruti outskirts. A shrubby desert plain, with many different species of plants and cactus like trees. Most of which are armed with razor sharp barbs or thorns. As we walked out away from the church Pastor Uziah warned our group about the threat of cobra’s in the cool shady places of the area we were walking through.
It was only a short walk to the homes of the local families and we were greeted with hospitality and willing ears. Our team all gathered back to share testimony of salvations happening all around. Men, older men in my our experience, were hearing and receiving the gospel. We hope this is the beginning of something here in the Laikapia county and surrounding area.
As we started the the teaching in the conference in the afternoon we had another great surprise in store. Along with the intro of the book of James was offered a invitation. Several women went out following the invitation and four made a decision to follow Christ.
Day 1 in Rumuruti turned out to be a day of salvation, a day to be remembered forever. I hope that in my last days that I will be able to recall the days like this one, to tell this story and others like it to my grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The team we have come with this year has done so well and are such a blessing to the people here. The Kilgoris team is going above and beyond, the focus and work they are demonstrating is amazing. It is a true inspiration to see the progress that has been made over the past few years.
